Privacy Notice

Version: 2026-04-11 · Effective Date: 2026-04-11

This Privacy Notice describes how ConnectInk collects, uses, and protects student data in compliance with the New York State Education Law Section 2-d, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

1. Who We Are

ConnectInk is an AI-powered writing feedback tool designed for K–12 students and their teachers. We are committed to protecting student privacy and maintaining the trust of students, families, and educators.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only data necessary to provide the educational service. We do not collect location data, biometric data, or behavioral advertising data.

3. How We Use Data

Student data is used exclusively for educational purposes:

Student data is NEVER sold, shared for commercial purposes, or used for advertising.

Student data is NEVER used to train AI models. All AI processing is performed via Anthropic's Claude API with zero data retention. Anthropic does not train on API data by default.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

ConnectInk uses the following third-party processors to deliver the service. Each has agreed to handle student data only as directed and in compliance with applicable law:

No other third parties receive student data.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Student writing and AI feedback are retained for the duration of the active school year plus 90 days. Teachers may request earlier deletion.

AI feedback logs are retained even if students delete their documents, to support teacher oversight requirements.

When we honor a deletion request, we remove the student's writing, AI feedback content, chat history, and identifying profile details (name and email), and we take any published work offline. We keep only a de-identified usage record (that an account existed and how many drafts and feedback events it generated) with no name, email, or writing attached. This lets us report accurate aggregate program usage while ensuring no one can see what an individual student wrote.

To request deletion of your data at any time, visit our Data Deletion Request page. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Student Rights (FERPA)

Under FERPA, students and parents have the right to inspect and review educational records, request corrections, and consent to disclosures. Contact your school administrator or rahul@innovateinsightfully.com to exercise these rights.

7. Children Under 13 (COPPA)

ConnectInk is intended for students 13 and older. We do not knowingly accept accounts for, or collect personal information from, children under 13.

If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a student under 13, we will delete that information and close the account. Parents or guardians who believe their child under 13 has an account on ConnectInk should contact us at rahul@innovateinsightfully.com and we will remove the account and any associated data.

For more information, see our Notice on Children Under 13.

8. Data Security

We employ industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication via Clerk, and access controls that limit data access to authorized users only. Student writing is never stored in plain text in logs or monitoring tools.

9. Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach affecting student information, ConnectInk will notify affected schools and, where required, parents and students within 5 business days of discovering the breach, in compliance with NYS Education Law 2-d.

10. NYS Education Law 2-d Compliance

ConnectInk is committed to full compliance with New York State Education Law Section 2-d. This means:
